RAM (Random Access Memory) – The computer system's memory to which new application programs can be implemented and executed.

Record Custodian – The individual who is responsible for the physical storage and safeguarding of records when they are being retained.

Record Lifecycle – The lifetime of a record, from its creation to its deletion.

Repository – A centralized database stored on a computer that houses specific information.

Residual Data – Data that is not currently live on the computer system, including data found in file slack space, data found on media free space, and data from deleted files. Also known as Ambient Data.

Restore – The process of transferring data from a backup medium, such as external hard drives or backup tapes, to an online system. An individual may perform a restore to recover from a disaster, failure, or other problem.

Router – A piece of hardware that forwards data packets between two or more networks.
